GUEST LECTURE ON PERSIAN THEATRE, AUGUST 24, 2017

As a part of the most celebrated event of The IISU Theatrical Society, “35 Days- Annual Workshop” we had amongst us a very eminent theatre personality, Mr. RANBEER SIGH for a guest lecture on Persian Theatre on 24 August 2017. Mr. Sigh is presently the president of Indian People’s Theatre Association, India. He’s also the founder of Jaipur Theatre  Group.

He started the orientation by taking the students through long historical journey of theatre. He portrayed the hierarchy from Sanskrit Theatre as the ancestor to Persian Theatre and that to the present day theatre in the most exquisite manner. In context with the play, “Rustam- O- Sohrab” he told that it was the first Persian play written by Amateur theatre company in 1929. The company never knew that the Persian Theatre could turn into a professional theatre. The writer, Agha Hashar Kashmiri was initially a shawl seller and after watching a play, he had an instinct of writing a play himself. Hence, he wrote Rustam- O – Sohrab in Hindustani language. Agha Hashar is called the The Shakespeare of India. Throwing some more light upon Persian theatre, “There’s no sense of Persian theatre if you can't sing” said Mr. Sigh. Also that the art of adaptation is a gift of Persian theatre only. He concluded the session by wishing students all the very best for their upcoming production as it's not an impossible task but a tough one indeed. It’ll require a lot of stamina, hard work and dedication.

It was great having Mr. Ranbeer Sigh amidst the The IISU Theatrical Society.
