Welcome to IISU Theatrical society

Welcome to IISU Theatrical society The theatrical society began its humble origins for a small entry in the cultural offerings in the 2001 fresher’s and the thank you party. The members performed a Nukkad Natak in the inter-college competition held in Kanoria. The theatrical society held its first ever production “Seasons” which was the 1st initiative by the group. This involved scripting, directing, coordinating, music, dance, stage setup, etc. which was all coordinated by the students without expert guidance. The effort by the group was highly appreciated and the drama was officially included in the Annual Function Cultural Program for the first time. In 2002 along with its other cultural and inter-college events the theatrical society held its first theatre workshop that lasted for 45 days. Over the span of 4 years the theatrical society held many such workshops that had nearly 50-60 students each and where every student was given a role to enact. The below are a few of the plays put up over the years: 2002: Ucchakkon Ka Chorus 2003 : Khabsoorat Bahu 2004 : Ramleela 2005 : Sharmishtha Devi Hostel In 2011 a group of 6 students started to revive the society in the form of Nukkad Natak. They performed their first ever nukkad natak in the IIS auditorium for Independence day a poem by Ashok Chakradhar “Tamasha”. They performed the same in Kanoria in the inter-college event, and also for 26th January. But as the old age saying goes practice makes perfect as in 2012 the team won numerous positions many of them first in colleges like Kanoria, Xavier, BIT, MNIT and also secured third in LNMIIT. They performed many plays regarding world water day, literacy day in basti as a part of NSS. They have since performed many plays and won many laurels the recent being bagging the 6th position in IIT Delhi out of which 63 colleges were participating. Of the plays performed individual participants have also been singled out for their performance such as Megha Choudhary won the performer of the day at MNIT and Hiteshi Bhatia won the runners up at the same. Hiteshi Bhatia also bagged 2nd Position in Rendezvous- IIT Delhi’s On-the-spot Photography Competition. In 2012 another milestone was achieved by the theatrical society when after a hiatus of 6 years the society put up its annual play “The Little Angel”. It was performed three times out of which the last was performed in Jawarhar Kala Kendra and had its chief guest as Niranjan Goswami a renowned mime artist.
